A conversation
should feel like one.

Four minutes and fifty-seven seconds, recorded in one take. Two voices: a person working something out, and Dessa. No script, no edit, no answer at the end — just the sound of being heard.

Why a voice

Three reasons we
did not build a chat box.

Everything in this category looks the same: an input, a spinner, a wall of confident text. A wellbeing product should not feel like a form.

01

Text is a form. A voice is a room.

Typing into a box strips out everything that makes a conversation feel human: pace, hesitation, the moment someone hears you. We are building guidance that sounds like it was said, not printed.

02

The pause is the data.

In typing, a pause is invisible. In speech, it is the most honest part of the exchange. A voice interface can notice when someone is thinking, and wait.

03

Not a therapist. A mirror.

Dessa is not here to diagnose or to replace a person. The voice exists to help you hear your own thinking out loud — and to know, clearly, when the next step should be human.

Chapter 01 · 0:00 · Arrival

HerHello?

DessaHello?

HerHey, yeah, I wanted to talk about that thing with you.

DessaYes.

HerSo, I don't know, I've just been so super stressed lately.

DessaI know, I can tell, you look tired today.

HerI am very tired, I just, I don't know, I'm just like, I'm just so uncertain about the future, you know?

DessaYeah, I hear that, that's, you know, being uncertain is, it's not, it's not what anyone should do.

Chapter 02 · 0:34 · Uncertainty

HerIt sucks, like, I don't know, like, I just feel so confused about what I'm going to do and where I'm going to be and all that and like…

DessaYou know, it's, it's, you know, you say, like, this is something that should be for, you know, 50, 60 year olds, right? But no, it's all life experiences.

DessaAnd, you know, if you can relax into it knowing that this is not your problem, this is, you know, the world and the things that you experience that give you a perspective that will then help you, you know, make the choices that you will be making.

Chapter 03 · 1:10 · This is actually happening

DessaBut, you know, it's scary right now, it's scary right now because this is actually happening.

DessaYou know, it's not this thing that you've, you know, got into your mind that it's like, oh yeah, but someday, someday, it is now, you know, that's, that's why it's so scary.

HerI don't know, I just feel like, I mean, I feel like there's so much pressure, you know, to like, figure things out and do it the right way.

Chapter 04 · 1:32 · What you want

HerYeah, because I'm just like young and like, you know, and yeah, but it's—

DessaIt's about what you want, Mike, you know, it's not just what everyone else wants. It's, it's what you want, right?

HerAnd so it's entirely up to you what you want. I don't think I don't know what I want. I just, I can't decide, you know, I just, I don't know.

HerAnd if I, if I, I don't know if I choose something, well, I regret it later.

DessaOh, honey, I regret it every single day.

DessaIs regret, yeah, is regret what you have? No, it's what, it's the choice you didn't make. I mean, I never want to regret that.

Chapter 05 · 2:08 · Regret

DessaSo I do what I can to, you know, make the choices that I think will be the best ones for me or, you know, what others want for me.

DessaBut I do it to a point, you know, I, I can't make everybody happy, you know, but yeah.

DessaYeah. There's, there's that too, right? Right.

DessaYour parents' expectations, your people around you, what you want as well.

Chapter 06 · 2:36 · Expectations

DessaYeah, exactly. If you're only doing what you want, you know, I mean, I want, I know teaching is important, but I do, I also want the flexibility of my job, you know, I don't want to,

DessaI don't want to be tied down to any particular thing because I just, I'm an old lady, you know, I want to just get up and go every day if I want to get up and go somewhere.

Chapter 07 · 3:00 · Younger me

HerWell, I guess, you know, given life experience and all, like, what would have, if younger you was thinking the things I'm thinking right now, what would you say to her?

DessaI would just say to relax a little bit more, you know, I wasn't, I didn't always have straight A's in school, right?

DessaLike I wasn't, it wasn't that serious and I managed to get through, you know, I was, I'm pretty good at what I do and I don't think I would fail at anything right now.

DessaBut it, I could have just eased up a little bit more and had a little, not eased up, just had a little bit slower pace of life, you know, that, you know, back then it was always, oh, I have to, this has to happen now and this only had to do with the school.

DessaYou know, like I didn't have to go to university or I didn't have to, you know, get my undergraduate degree. I didn't have to do any of this. It was all expectation.

Chapter 08 · 4:02 · Not so serious

DessaAnd, you know, I think I would, if I, if there was a younger me that I was talking to, I would just say, hey, it's not as serious as you're thinking, you know.

DessaIt feels very, it feels like, you know, I don't know, it just feels like, it feels so much right now, you know, it feels so serious.

DessaYeah, it's, it's very much a lot of pressure, but it doesn't have to be, you know, it doesn't have to be.

DessaBut whatever makes you happy and whatever makes you feel comfortable in your own skin, then I think that's, that's what you should focus on, as opposed to, you know.

HerI would feel comfortable just like sleeping all day and just like relaxing, but I don't think I can just do that, you know.

DessaYeah, yeah, you can't just do that, you know, you want to, you, you're going to have to make your life.
